The co-main event of this Friday Night's UFC 207 card will see UFC Bantamweight Champion Dominick Cruz defend the gold against #5 ranked Cody Garbrandt.
The fight that will take place right before the bantamweight title bout will be another in the bantamweight division as #1 TJ Dillashaw faces #2 John Lineker. Despite the fact the the two top ranked bantamweights will clash on Friday Night, the winner of the fight may not get the next title opportunity, according to UFC match maker Sean Shelby.
“The great thing about the bantamweight division right now (is) it’s on fire,” Shelby said on The Watch List. “I don’t think there’s another division with more contenders. We’ll see what we get out of this fight (as far as a title shot). On paper, regardless of title contendership, it’s straight fire. It’s all offense.”
The reason behind the claim that the winner of Dillashaw and Lineker may not be getting a shot, according to Shelby, is that the division isn't lacking in contenders.
“(Jimmie) Rivera has been outstanding; you got (Bryan) Caraway who is still up there in the top-six – you got Dodson,” Shelby said. “There’s so many guys, and there’s guys coming up breaking into the top 10. I’m so happy with the division right now.”
UFC 207 takes place on Friday, December 30 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada with Amanda Nunes and Ronda Rousey headlining.
