Tito Ortiz Faces Alberto Del Rio At A Future Combate Americas Event

Hell may have finally frozen over because former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Tito Ortiz will make his Combate Americas debut against former WWE Champion Alberto Del Rio.

Combate CEO Campbell McLaren made the announcement for the super fight during an appearance on the Generacion MMA podcast, a video of the announcement can be seen below:

Ortiz (20-12-1) will enter the contest on the strength of a two fight winning streak, defeating the duo of Chuck Liddell and Chael Sonnen. Ortiz is a former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion, defeating Wanderlei Silva to win the gold at UFC 25 in April of 2000. Ortiz has picked up twenty wins as a professional MMA fighter and half of those victories have come by way of KO/TKO.

Del Rio (9-5-0) is going to be competing for the first time in over nine years and hasn’t picked up a professional MMA victory in over nines years. Del Rio did compete twice under the PRIDE banner, dropping bouts to the duo of Mirko Cro Cop and Kazuhiro Nakamura. Del Rio has had a ton of success as a professional wrestler, winning championships in the WWE, Impact Wrestling, AAA, CMLL and other places.

There is no date or location for the fight yet, but the bout is expected to serve as the main event for the show.
