Henry Cejudo became the UFC Flyweight Champion at UFC 227, defeating Demetrious Johnson by split decision to claim the gold.
The new flyweight champion called out UFC Bantamweight Champion TJ Dillashaw after the fight, but Dillashaw doesn’t believe the new champ deserves the opportunity.
“I don’t really think the guy would deserve it…I mean, Joseph Benavidez just beat him. Yeah, (Benavidez) lost a split decision to (Sergio) Pettis, but I didn’t agree with that loss. So I think there’s a lot of stuff there, and he’s possibly got a trilogy with (Demetrious Johnson). I’m open to whatever, though. I’m not stepping away from a challenge, that’s for sure,” says Dillashaw at the UFC 227 post-fight press conference.
Dillashaw had been calling out former UFC Flyweight Champion Demetrious Johnson for quite some time, but the bout never came together.
One thing Dillashaw will continue to do, no matter who is opposite of him in the Octagon, is to keep on fighting.
“I keep fighting,” Dillashaw said. “I’m not on the couch, I’m not behind the desk hurt. I’m out here performing, and I’m fighting the best in the world.”
If Cejudo does eventually get the opportunity to become a double champion, it would make him one of a handful of fighters in the UFC to accomplish that goal.
