Rafael Dos Anjos earned a unanimous decision win over former UFC Welterweight Champion Robbie Lawler in the main event of UFC On Fox 26.
The bout was dubbed by many a title eliminator and Dos Anjos may get the next shot at the gold, which has caused UFC Welterweight Champion Tyron Woodley to promise a knockout win if he does indeed face the Brazilian.
“In my opinion, what I saw tonight is that if any of those two guys in that bout would fight me, one of those guys is going to get knocked out,” Woodley said on the UFC On Fox 26 post-fight show. “I saw the IQ wasn’t as high as I would like for a No. 1 contendership fight. Both of those guys are always talking about pushing the pace, and they were going to do this and they were going to do that. I saw a ton of openings for myself (in that fight). Obviously, I don’t want to steal the shine. RDA had a great moment, he went out there, he did his job. Robbie Lawler is a very dangerous opponent and he’s knocked out so many different people, but just being honest and keeping it 100 percent, I’m the champion for a reason.”
While Dos Anjos did secure a decision win over Lawler, the current champion earned a first round knockout win over him at UFC 201 to win the gold.
Woodley believes that he has a power advantage of Dos Anjos that would play favorably in a potential fight.
“I think the weight might have (been an issue for dos Anjos when he fought Tony Ferguson). I think the weight [was also] an issue with Eddie Alvarez. Now at 170, you come up, you don’t have to cut the weight, but now you’ve got to deal with some real power,” Woodley said.
There may be a slight delay in a potential title bout because Woodley is about to undergo shoulder surgery.
