Newly crowned interim UFC middleweight champion Robert Whittaker, Yoel Romero, Rob Font and Chad Laprise won UFC 213 fight night bonuses. Each fighter earned $50,000.
UFC 213 took place from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The main card was shown on pay-per-view with the preliminary bout taking place on FS1 and UFC Fight Pass.
Whittaker and Romero took home “Fight of the Night” for their main event tilt in which Whittaker won via unanimous decision (48-47, 48-47, 48-47).
Laprise and Font earned “Performance of the Night” accolades.
After losing the first two rounds and suffering a leg injury, Whittaker showed the heart of a champion and took the last three round of the fight to become the first Australian to win a UFC title.
Laprise got off to a shaky start but rallied late to notch a third-round TKO victory over Brian Camozzi.
Font went up against Douglas Silva de Andrade. The fight originally was supposed to be on the preliminary portion of the show but due to original UFC 213 main event of Amanda Nunes and Valentina Shevchenko being scrapped, Font- de Andrade got bumped to the pay-per-view opener. Font made it count pressing forward throughout and went on to score a second-round guillotine choke.
