UFC 222 Prelims See Cody Stamann Beat Bryan Caraway, Dodson Win, Mike Pyle Retire, And Adalaide Byrd Haunt Mackenzie Dern

MMA

UFC 220's prelims featured several notable bouts.

#7 Bryan Caraway returned to the UFC for the first time since Spring of 2017, and was welcomed back by an unranked Cody Stamann. After a quick start for Caraway, he slowed down and was repeatedly countered by the strikes of Stamann. This summed up the duration of the final two rounds, which earned Stamann the split decision victory. The fight was also notable in that it was Adalaide  Byrd's first UFC judging assignment since 2016. Joe Rogan eviscerated her on commentary.

This would later become a topic, as Byrd scored Ashley Yoder over UFC newcomer Mackenzie Dern. Dern clearly won the first and third rounder of the fight, with Byrd's scorecard being the one outlier in a split decision victory over Yoder.

Mike Pyle's MMA swan song also took place at UFC 222 on the show's prelims. After a 19-year career, Pyle was quickly disposed of by Zak Ottow with a TKO. Ottow was awarded his BJJ black belt following the fight.

Other notable fights on the prelims included Hector Lombard's DQ loss to CB Dollaway, as well as Alex Hernandez's upset KO over Beneil Dariush
