UFC fighters will be using the older style of gloves at UFC 309 in New York City.
Per Ariel Helwani, UFC fighters competing at UFC 309 have been told that they will be using the classic style of gloves, as opposed to the new style that was introduced in June 2024.
As of this writing, no specific reason was given for the switch.
UFC has informed the fighters competing on Saturday’s 309 card in NYC that they will be using the old gloves not the new ones introduced back in June, per multiple sources. Specific reason unclear at the moment.

The new gloves were introduced featuring new padding, a new seam structure, meant to minimize abrasions, and chip technology that would allow UFC to identify a specific glove worn by specific fighters for particular fights.
