Former UFC fighter Angela Magana is dealing with a serious medical and potentially life threatening issue at the moment because Magana is currently in a coma after complications from recent emergency surgery.

Gabriel Lamastus, who is Magana’s coach, says the issues started when Magana started experiencing back pain while training for an upcoming bout against Kyra Batara on a Combate Americas card later this month. The fighter was injured during a takedown attempt and an MRI revealed the fighter had acquired a herniated disc.
Magana had tried nerve block to help relieve the pain, but that didn’t help and emergency surgery was decided to be the best option. The surgery was performed yesterday and once the procedure was completed, but complications prevented the former UFC star from waking up.
Lamastus also issued the following statement to MMA Junkie on the matter:
“She’s in a coma, and we’re waiting to hear some positive news. The surgery went fine. The problem was anesthesia. It’s very rare that patients react bad to anesthesia, but it does happen, and I guess this is one of those rare cases. But I’m being positive. She’ll be fine, and she’ll wake up. She’s a fighter. I’m just staying positive. She’s a hard worker. Angela is a very, very hard worker. A lot of people only know the Angela from social media. They don’t really know the real Angela. That woman busts her tail to provide for her family.”
Fightful will continue to provide updates on the fighter’s condition as they become available.
