Seventeen fight UFC veteran Nik Lentz has left American Top Team (ATT), effective immediately, ending a five year relationship with the team.
Although the fighter wouldn’t go into the specifics about why he left ATT, he does admit that he had a variety of issues with them.
“I’m figuring them out as we speak,” he wrote via text message to MMA Junkie. “I didn’t go searching around in the shadows finding a new team before I left this one. That would not be very honorable … and I still place a lot of value in that. I have a lot of issues with ATT obviously because I left, but you will have to find someone else for that dirt. I have no comment on ATT anymore, as I’m not a part of the team anymore.”
Lentz went 6-4-0 under the UFC banner during his time with ATT, with those six wins coming over Eiji Mitsuoka, Diego Nunes, Hacran Dias, Manny Gamburyan, Danny Castillo and Michael McBride.
ATT Founder Dan Lamber was also contacted by MMA Junkie about the fighter’s departure from his team.
“I don’t want to speak for Nik. Sometimes people need a change. He’s a solid guy, and I’m sure he’ll do great wherever he goes,” says Lambert.
The fighters last bout under the ATT auspices was a decision loss to Islam Makhachev at UFC 208. It is unknown at this time where Lentz will go next to train or even when he is going to be competing in the Octagon as well.
