New Day may have lost their Smackdown Tag Team Championships on Sunday, but WWE seems to have big plans in store for the trio.
According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE wants to establish New Day as the greatest tag team of all time. In addition to their record breaking tag team title reign that ended in December, the idea is them to break the seven-title threshold to become the winningest team in history. The record is currently held by Hardy Boyz and Edge & Christian. As of now New Day have three reigns.
New Day have held three incarnations of the titles -- the WWE Tag Team Championship, which became the Raw Tag Team Championship during their reign, as well as the Smackdown Tag Team Championship. The Usos actually have more reigns as of now, with their fourth starting at Summerslam.
Xavier Woods also held a TNA Tag Team Championship with Jay Lethal, while Kofi Kingston held tag team titles with CM Punk, Evan Bourne and R-Truth.
