AAA Tag Team Titles Change Hands On 10/16 Episode Of AEW Dynamite

The AAA Tag Team Titles were on the line during tonight’s special Saturday night Dynamite.

On October 8, AEW announced that the Lucha Bros (Penta El Zero M & Rey Fenix) would defend the AAA Tag Team Championships against an undisclosed “Masked Tag Team.” This came about after Andrade called out the Lucha Bros and said that they were due to defend the AAA belts. The Champions immediately accepted Andrade’s challenge to face two of his closest friends.

At the event, Andrade revealed Las Super Ranas as his friends. No one on commentary, except CM Punk, knew who they were. Punk pointed out that it was clearly Cash Wheeler and Dax Harwood. They were unmasked soon after and proved Punk to be correct.

The Lucha Bros were close to winning when Tully Blanchard came out and distracted the referee. This allowed FTR to use the belts as a weapon and pin Fenix for the win, capturing the titles in the process.

Backstage, Tony Schiavone tried to get a word with FTR and Tully but was interrupted by MJF. He and Andrade struck a deal, loaning out his fellow Pinnacle member for the night. For a fee, of course.

Fenix and Penta won the titles from The Young Bucks on June 16, 2019 at AAA’s Verano de Escándalo show. They also defeated Matt and Nick Jackson at All Out 2021 in a Steel Cage Match to capture the AEW Tag Team Titles for the first time.
