Adam Copeland On Flaming Table Spot: If You See Me Do Something Stupid, Chances Are It Was My Idea

Adam Copeland reflects on WrestleMania 22.

At WrestleMania 22, Edge would take on Mick Foley in a hardcore match that would live up to the stipulation in spades. The match also featured an iconic spot in WrestleMania history, as Edge would spear The Hardcore Legend through a table that was ablaze during the match.

While speaking to Insight with Chris Van Vliet, Copeland would look back on the spot, noting that it was his idea.

"It was part of my plan. I've always said this, if you see something stupid that I do, chances are it was my idea. Whether it's the AA off of a ladder through two tables, whether it's the flaming table, chances are it was my stupidity. Yeah, I don't even have like a good answer as to why. I mean, obviously, I'm a masochist on some level. But I think every pro wrestler is."

Copeland continued, noting that the reality of the spot didn't hit him till he was running towards the flaming table.

"You don't rehearse that at all. To the point where it didn't even dawn on me until I was running to the flames. I was like I don't have a shirt on and I'm diving face first into this thing. Mick's got 3 layers on and he's going through back first and that sucks too, don't get me wrong. But it wasn't until I was making that leap that I was like oh man, I've just got to bury my head into Mick here and just hope for the best. It still burned my arm, burned a bunch of hair off, burned my knuckles. All I could smell was burnt hair. As I was crawling over I looked over and my arm was bubbling. Alright, not the wisest choice but again, at that stage of my life I was all about that was it. It was that job and it was about getting to the top of that job. Yeah, that's usually when you can catch lightning in a bottle."

Copeland is set to defend the title once again tonight on AEW Collision, when he faces off with Kyle O'Reilly. You can read more about that here.

Elsewhere in the same interview, Copeland reflected on almost joining All Elite Wrestling in 2019. You can read more about that here.
