Adam Copeland, formerly known as Edge in WWE, comments on John Cena's impending retirement.
From 2006-2009, Edge was John Cena's greatest rival in WWE. Both men traded multiple World Championships with each other and competed in numerous pay-per-view main events. Now, As Adam Copeland enjoys the second lease on his career that has allowed him to finish his journey on his terms, Cena is nearing the end of his time in the squared circle, planning to retire from WWE at the end of 2025.
While speaking to Liam Crowley of Screen Rant, Cope was asked if he had spoken to John Cena about retirement. Copeland said they had brief discussions while Copeland was still working for WWE, but the topic of retirement never came up.
Still, "The Rated R Superstar" was very complimentary of Cena, calling him a very intelligent man and saying that the upcoming retirement will likely be harder on the fan base than it will be on Cena, as he believes Cena has had enough time to make peace with the direction of his career.
"We had talked briefly when he came back and I was with WWE. He said, 'How are you doing this stuff, man? You're having half an hour matches and stuff,' but we haven't talked about retiring or anything like that. John's thought this through, and he's thought of every scenario and every conceivable direction and all of those things. He's an intelligent man, so, I'm sure he's already come to terms, and I think he's been coming to terms with it for a long time. I think it'll be harder for the fan base to come to terms, which usually ends up being the case."
John Cena's final run will kick off on the first WWE Monday Night Raw on Netflix. Learn more about the retirement tour here.
Chris Jericho, who has worked with both Copeland and Cena multiple times in the past, has said that he is uncertain about the idea of retirement tours and doesn't think he needs one for his own career. Learn more here.
