AEW Dynamite (8/17) Preview: Dragon vs. Dragon Slayer, Trios Tournament Begins, And More!

It's Wednesday, and you know what that means!

Tonight, AEW Dynamite is presented by Game of Thrones: House of the Dragon. With CM Punk’s return keeping the AEW faithful buzzing, tonight's episode continues the road to AEW All Out. Bryan Danielson faces Daniel Garcia in a specialty match that favors the technical wizardry both men possess, The Young Bucks’ mystery partner has everyone talking, and much more is slated to go down just one week after Quake by the Lake

Tony Khan: I Was Thrilled To Extend Daniel Garcia's Contract And Have Him Stay In AEW For Years To Come

Here's everything you need to know before tonight's episode of AEW Dynamite on TBS!

Daniel Garcia Looks To Slay The Dragon Once And For All

After getting a submission victory over Bryan Danielson in their first meeting, Daniel Garcia looks to cement his legacy as the greatest technical sports entertainer of all time when he faces Bryan Danielson in a 2 out of 3 Falls Match. Garcia, perhaps prematurely, has already dubbed himself “The Dragon Slayer.” Tonight, on a special episode of Dynamite presented by the HBO original series, Game of Thrones: House of the Dragon, Bryan Danielson will look to scorch Garcia’s hopes and dreams en route to proving that he is still the best in the world.

Just Who Will Team With The Young Bucks?

Tonight, the AEW World Trios Tag Team Championship Tournament begins and The Young Bucks, Matt and Nick Jackson, will have stiff competition in La Faccion Ingobernable. For the first time in AEW, Andrade, RUSH, and Dragon Lee compete in six-man tag team action, but the wrestling world appears to be more concerned with who Matt and Nick Jackson will team with.

On the most recent Being The Elite, there were definitely some hints that it may be an AEW favorite but the only thing known for sure is that it will not be Hangman Page. Page declined to team with The Youing Bucks as situations between them remain uncertain and Hangman has decided to be completely in the corner of The Dark Order during this tournament as a giveback to how they have always been in his corner.

Who will it be teaming with Matt and Nick? Elite fans are longing to here a particular Battle Cry ahead of tonight's match, but with such a phenomenal golden opportunity at stake, The Young Bucks are certain to be looking to have a prizefighter by their side, someone who can make sure that their team would be a regular nightmare for the competition.

In any case, Brandon Cutler is ready.

The Fallout Of CM Punk's Return

Nothing has been officially announced in regards to the AEW Undisputed World Championship picture, but CM Punk returned last week at the end of Quake by the Lake. Jon Moxley, who has been the interim Champion since CM Punk's injury, was less than thrilled to see his predecessor. It is known that both men will eventually meet for the Undisputed World Championship, but what will be the next stop on the road to that match? We find out tonight!

Toni Storm Looks To Make An Example Of KiLynn King

Due to the unfortunate injuries suffered by Kris Statlander, Toni Storm finds herself in a position to earn another championship opportunity against someone who is now her regular tag team partner, Thunder Rosa. Tonight, she will look to make a statement while taking on KiLynn King. In recent months, King has been more focused on NWA action but she knows this is also an opportunity for her to make an impression and perhaps land a permanent spot in the land of The Elite. Who will come out on top and what exactly is next for Thunder Rosa

The Gunn Club Tries To Surpass Varsity-Level

The Gunn Club, in an effort to capitalize on their win from Rampage and continue to impress “Daddy Ass” Billy Gunn (and, potentially, Malcolm Bivens), will be taking on the Varsity Blonds, Brian Pillman and Griff Garrison. Will they be able to continue their winning ways? Will they make a decision between their father or Malcolm Bivens in regards to who should lead them in the future? We look to find those answers tonight.

That's everything to look forward to tonight. However, FTR and Wardlow are looking to keep their names at the forefront of AEW, Athena is still seeking a match with Jade Cargill, and much more.

Here is the current lineup for AEW Dynamite on August 17:

AEW Dynamite (8/17)

  • 2 Out Of 3 Falls: Bryan Danielson vs. Daniel Garcia
