AJ Styles says Wrestlemania is the perfect time for his singles match against Shinsuke Nakamura.
The first time AJ Styles and Shinsuke Nakamura were in a match with each other was in 2008 and their first singles match against each other was in New Japan Pro Wrestling in 2016. At Wrestlemania 34, they will meet for the first time in a WWE singles match. In an interview with USA Today, Styles said a lot has changed since the first time he met Nakamura.
"Experience is everything. The first time I met Shinsuke, he was totally, 100 percent different than the guy you see in the ring today in an absolutely perfect way. This guy has evolved his character and who he is and has become one of the greatest Japanese superstars ever. That’s why he’s fighting for the WWE Championship at Wrestlemania," said Styles.
Styles and Nakamura did meet in the Money in the Bank match and Styles said it was a great way to test if people wanted to see the singles match.
"There are matches that you can have over and over and over again and people will love it, but there are some matches that you wish you had and you never got the opportunity to see it. This is it. This is the match I think a lot of people wanted to see, and I think we proved that at Money In The Bank...The opportunity to do it at Wrestlemania is perfect, and the fact that we haven’t touched in a one-on-one competition? Perfect," said Styles.
The WWE Championship is on the line at Wrestlemania 34 in the match between Styles and Nakamura at Wrestlemania 34. Fightful Wrestling will have live coverage and a recapping podcast of the event.
