Alex Hammerstone: MJF's Character Isn't Just A Character, But There's More To Max Than People Know

Alex Hammerstone reflects on his days working with MJF in MLW.

MJF and Hammerstone previously worked together in Major League Wrestling; alongside Richard Holliday, they teamed up to form The Dynasty in 2019. The group was one of the top acts in the company, as MJF and Holliday won the MLW World Tag Team Championship, and Hammerstone became the inaugural MLW National Openweight Champion. MJF went on to become one of the the top stars in AEW, and he now reigns supreme as the AEW World Champion. Likewise, Hammerstone won the MLW World Heavyweight Championship at MLW Fightland 2021, and he has held the title ever since.

Speaking with Scott Fishman of SEScoops, Hammerstone discussed his time working with MJF during their days together in MLW. He stated that they enjoyed working together, and he learned a lot from both MJF and Holliday. Hammerstone continued by sharing his belief that plenty of people try to get the rub from being around MJF, but he and Holliday weren't like that. He stated that MJF was generous with them during their run together.

“How sick of that would you get to be surrounded by people who are trying to get something from you,” Hammerstone said. “For The Dynasty, there was none of that. We weren’t trying to get a rub off Max. We were just working together and enjoying ourselves. He was very generous with us in a lot of ways because he had no fear of being undercut," Hammerstone said.

Hammerstone went on to recall his singles match with MJF in MLW and described how it elevated both of them. He noted that MJF did not go into the match trying to make it all about himself. He stated that the future world champion wanted to help his stablemates in The Dynasty throughout their time together, as he knew he would be successful. Hammerstone also noted that the MJF character is more than a persona, but there's a lot more to him than people know.

“He knew he was going to be successful, so to sit there and help us. Max and I had a singles match in MLW. To this day it’s one of my favorite matches. There was no part of him that went into that match trying to make it the MJF show. It was very much an entertaining match that elevated both of us. There is a lot more to Max than most people realize. That being said, the MJF character isn’t just a character. That’s Max for you," Hammerstone said.
