Angelina Love made it through.
The women's revolution in professional wrestling has reached new heights and it is continuing to do so in all promotions and companies. The stars of today are taking women's wrestling to the next stage and that groundwork was laid by the ladies before them. Whether it'd be SHINE, SHIMMER, WWE or IMPACT Wrestling, the proverbial door was being knocked down by women's wrestlers of the past.
Former 6-time TNA Women's Knockout Champion Angelina Love was a focal point during the early years of TNA. Love, who is known for her time in the company as a part of 'The Beautiful People' with Velvet Sky made a lot of memories during their time together as a team and as singles competitors. One of the special highlights for Angelina Love was winning her first Knockouts Title. That win happened at the 2009 'LockDown' pay-per-view in a Six Sides Of Steel match featuring herself, Taylor Wilde and Awesome Kong. Love revealed during an interview with Hannibal TV that during the seven-minute bout she took a cross-body from Taylor Wilde and Wilde landed directly on Angelina's head and despite being concussed, Love was able to pick up the victory and have her moment as the new Knockouts Champion.
“Oh God, I have a lot of highlights. I would love to say the first time I won Knockouts Title was a highlight but I was completely unconscious when I won the title so I don’t remember.” She continued, “I got a concussion, live on pay-per-view so, that… it was Lockdown 2009 in Lowell… no sorry it was Philly and it was a Cage match. It was me, Taylor Wilde and Kong, and I think Kong was the champ at the time, and right towards the end of the match, Taylor Wilde did a cross body off the top and landed on my brains on the mat and so I was just like… we were supposed to go into this whole intricate sequence for the finish and it was just like, Kong was tied to the cage and I was unconscious and Taylor Wilde was just like, ‘Alright, we’re live on pay-per-view - what do I do?’ So I did end up winning but it wasn't quite what we had planned.”
While on the topic of Knockouts Champions, the current IMPACT Knockouts Champion Tessa Blanchard recently wrestled a 75-minute match with Mercedes Martinez. To read more on that, click here.
