Anthony Bowens tried to put together a Billy & Chuck reunion.
On the November 2, 2022 episode of AEW Dynamite, The Acclaimed (Anthony Bowens & Max Caster) threw a Daddy Ass Birthday Bash for Billy Gunn. The birthday bash featured scissoring, a trophy, Billy Gunn adopting The Acclaimed, and more.
According to Anthony Bowens, less than half of his ideas came to fruition for the segment.
"The Daddy Ass Birthday Bash celebration, I thought it would be a fun idea, and I did put it together. What you saw, people enjoyed, but it was maybe 30 or 40 percent of what I had originally planned," Bowens told Chris Van Vliet on Insight.
When asked if Chuck Palumbo was going to be a surprise guest, Bowens said, "He was going to be my birthday gift to Billy. I thought the irony of me reuniting Billy & Chuck would be perfect for this birthday bash, but he wasn't available last minute."
Billy & Chuck were a tag team in the early 2000s in WWE and were infamously going to get married on WWE SmackDown in 2002 before it was revealed to be a publicity stunt.
"Everything that we had really thought about that would have been cool, ended up not being available, so we just had to pivot. Here's this trophy, adopt us, so we are Billy Gunn's adopted children now. Just know, that segment was going to be absolutely insane if it had been the way we had planned it," said Bowens.
Though The Acclaimed are Billy's adopted sons, his real sons (Austin & Colten Gunn) are currently beefing with them and now they will have a family therapy session on the January 25 episode of AEW Dynamite.
