Athena retained her Ring of Honor Women's World Championship over Gisele Shaw in the co-main event of Maple Leaf Pro Wrestling Forged In Excellence's second night.
Athena was given the rare opportunity to defend her Ring of Honor Women's World Championship outside of ROH, competing against Gisele Shaw in defense of her championship at MLP's second event since relaunching.
The match was competitive, but in the end, "The Forever Champion" fought her way out of multiple title-threatening scenarios, kicking out at the count of one multiple times late in the match and kicking out of a Springboard Cutter to land the O-Face on Shaw and retain her championship yet again.

This was a rare defense in which Athena was not flanked by her minions, Lexy Nair and Billie Starkz. Athena has held the championship for 681 days, the longest reign in the Ring of Honor's history.
Gisele Shaw recently left TNA Wrestling. Learn more about that here.
