Athena Would Be Open To A One-On-One Match Against Ronda Rousey, 'I'll Never Say Never'

Athena would be open to going one-on-one with Ronda Rousey if the opportunity ever arose.

Since both women departed WWE, Athena and Ronda Rousey have been on opposite ends of two tag team matches. Both times, Athena teamed up with Billie Starkz, while Rousey partnered with her friend Marina Shafir. The first of these two matches was held at Wrestling REVOLVER, while the other saw Ronda make her debut in the Ring of Honor for a special one-off match.

However, the question remains whether or not Rousey and Athena will ever square off in a singles encounter. During an interview with Stephanie Chase, Athena said she would be open to having the match if it was something Ronda wanted.

"I would love to have a singles match with her, to be honest with you. It's something we've talked about, we joke about. But at the same time, I think she just wanted to have fun, and she wanted to know that pro wrestling can be fun. Because at the same time, when you're doing live TV, no matter what banner you're under, it's work. You're a constant professional. When you go to the indies, it's fun," Athena said. "Then, when Tony presented the match, she had fun doing TV. So, I definitely think we'll see her back, maybe down the road, maybe a year from now, two years, or whatever. Whenever she wants it. If I get a random text message, 'Hey, girl, let's go,' I mean, we'll see what happens. I'll never say never. I know she'll never say never. So we'll just see what happens."

Ronda Rousey likely won't be stepping inside the ring anytime soon for the happiest reasons. She recently announced that she is pregnant with her second child. Learn more here.

Athena, on the other hand, is closing in on 600 days with the Ring of Honor Women's World Championship after defeating Queen Aminata at ROH Death Before Dishonor.
