The match was a triple threat after a quarterfinal matchup between Joe and Ricochet, which would have decided Corbin's opponent, from September 2 ended in a double pinfall. No winner was immediately named but it was later decided that both Joe and Ricochet advanced and would face Corbin in the semifinals.
With the win, Corbin now faces the winner of the other semifinal matchup which is Elias vs. Chad Gable. That match will take place on the September 10 edition of SmackDown Live, also taking place at Madison Square Garden.
The King of the Ring finals will take place at the Clash of Champions show on September 15. Fightful will have live coverage of Clash of Champions.
