Becky Lynch discusses her connection to the Money in the Bank match.
As a Women's Triple Crown Champion, Becky Lynch has practically done it all in WWE. She is a former Raw Women's Champion, and she has held the SmackDown Women's Championship. Lynch is also a former WWE Women's Tag Team Champion and Royal Rumble winner. She has never held the Money in the Bank briefcase, but she will have the chance to do so at WWE Money in the Bank, as she has qualified for the women's ladder match.
Speaking on WWE After The Bell with Corey Graves and Kevin Patrick, Lynch was asked why now is the time for her to win the Money in the Bank match. She described how she has wanted the briefcase from the start, but it has evaded her.
“Oh my gosh, I have wanted that thing. I have wanted it since it’s inception. I was in the first Money in the Bank, the first Women’s Money in the Bank Ladder Match, where [Carmella] won it, stole it from me. So I’ve been in four, and every single one, I’ve been the last person holding it before I’ve gotten knocked off. There’s something so exciting about that briefcase, and I’ve always wanted to hold it because anything can happen. Anything can happen, and it’s that element of surprise that you always have, and that’s what we wrestle for. That’s what we do this for, to elicit a response from the audience, and there is never a better, bigger response than somebody with their briefcase hits the ring, their music hits, and the place just goes electric because anything can happen. I want that. It has eluded me this long, but now I have gotten myself into a precarious situation," Lynch said.
Lynch later described how "The Man" originated at WWE Money in the Bank 2018, where she competed in the Women's Money in the Bank Ladder Match. Though she didn't win the bout, the fans rallied around her, and Lynch stated that this response led to the creation of "The Man" and her rise to the main-event level. She noted that being able to reward the fans for their support by winning the Money in the Bank match would be special.
“The audience, thank god, have been with me. They’ve been with me on this journey. I have kind of a history with the audience and Money in the Bank. They’re kind of what made me The Man. When we look back at Money in the Bank 2018 and it was the upswell from the audience, any time I would climb that ladder, and there was no way that the office could ignore it. That’s really where The Man started, was from the audience responding to me kindly at Money in the Bank, and to reward them, to finally give them their reward and say, ‘Guys, it’s all been worth it’ while I climb that ladder in the O2, in front of my countrymen, in front of the people that I maybe wrestled in front of in little halls in London 20 years ago, it will be worth it. I feel like, yeah, we need it," Lynch said.
