Becky Lynch reflects on her biggest challenge after headlining WrestleMania in 2019.
Becky Lynch captured lightning in a bottle in late 2018, following a broken nose she received by Nia Jax, Becky Lynch was removed from a potential match against Ronda Rousey and subsequently began her journey to the main event of WrestleMania 35.
Becky wound up winning that match and becoming the first woman to ever be the victor in the main event of WrestleMania. Walking out of that match as both the WWE Raw and SmackDown Women's Champion, Becky Lynch then found herself with a new challenge, having to create new opponents to sustain the star power that she had reached along the Road to WrestleMania.
Speaking to Stone Cold Steve Austin on the Broken Skull sessions, Becky Lynch says that being tasked with trying to elevate new opponents is something that she saw as the hardest challenge following her historic WrestleMania main event victory.
“You're no longer climbing the mountain, you're on top of the mountain looking down. But now you can fall off the mountain and so you're trying to hold on to the mountain, you know, and there's a blizzard incoming. Then there's a tornado and you're trying to dodge it, and you're just constantly trying to hold on to your place at the top of the mountain, right? Then the pressure started to get to me because I was at the top. I was feeling like I'm not having these great dudes that I want to have to go from the main event of WrestleMania against Ronda Rousey and Charlotte, people we knew, to now I have to build this new competitor. How do I do that?"
Stone Cold quipped that should not have been Becky Lynch's job, to begin with, and that should have been on the creative team to come up with new opponents for Becky.
"Yeah, it shouldn't be my job. But it was my job. So that was the job,” Becky replied.
Becky Lynch would go on to hold the WWE Raw Women's Championship for another year before relinquishing the title to take some time away from the ring and become a mother for the first time ever. Now, she is back as Raw Women’s Champion on the Road to WrestleMania 38.
Up next for Becky is a defense against Doudrop at the Royal Rumble on Saturday, January 29. We will have live coverage of the event.
