Brian Gewirtz Heard Donald Trump Called WWE Offices After Vince McMahon Blew Up In A Limo

On the June 11, 2007 episode of WWE Raw, Vince McMahon stepped into a limo that promptly exploded.

Vince had been going through a crisis in the television leading up to the limo explosion, but the angle never played out as Chris Benoit murdered his wife Nancy, their son Daniel, and himself.

On "Mr. McMahon," Vince looked back on the angle.

"The edit was perfect. Many individuals called the office, 'Is Vince okay?'" he recalled.

Lead writer Brian Gewirtz said, "Vince wanted to treat it like real life. The site treated it like it was real. The announcers were somber. In fact, from what I've heard, Donald Trump called up Vince's office to make sure Vince was okay. That became a controversial storyline. Certain tragic circumstances in real life happened that forced us to stop that storyline."

McMahon and Trump clashed at WrestleMania 23 in the Battle of the Billionaires with Umaga representing McMahon and Bobby Lashley representing Trump. McMahon got his head shaved as a result of the match.

McMahon returned as a television character on the August 6, 2007 episode of WWE Raw.

Janel Grant, a former WWE employee, filed a lawsuit in January against Vince McMahon, WWE, and John Laurinaitis. The lawsuit accuses McMahon of sexual assault and sex trafficking. On May 30, Grant agreed to pause the lawsuit for six months while the federal investigation continued against McMahon, who resigned from TKO/WWE following the lawsuit being filed.
