Chris Jericho tells the origin story of one of professional wrestling's greatest legends, Mitch, The Potted Plant.
In 2016 Chris Jericho feuded with Dean Ambrose, better known as Jon Moxley, for the first time ever, eventually leading to the first ever Ambrose Asylum Match at WWE Extreme Rules 2016. As part of the build to this, Ambrose hijacked the hosting duties of Chris Jericho's "Highlight Reel" talk show segment with his own "Ambrose Asylum" segments.
Decorations for the Ambrose Asylum were inexpensive, to say the least. A cheaply made sign and a potted plant were the best Ambrose could do, but that potted plant would go on to mean so much more. Eventually being named Mitch, the plant would be smashed over Ambrose's head by Chris Jericho as the rivalry between the two intensified. Now, Chris Jericho reveals the actual origin of the plant itself.
The first segment between Ambrose and Jericho took place in Tampa and Chris Jericho revealed on the latest episode of his Talk is Jericho podcast, that the potted plant was stolen from the arena of the Tampa Bay Lightning.
"The reason that started is because we were in Tampa and I was having Mox on the Highlight Reel. Mox was like, ‘I think I should bring you a gift or something. Maybe like a flower or a plant?’ We went to the offices of the Tampa Bay Lightning arena and there was like a potted plant. We look both ways and just take it. ‘We’ll bring it back after.’"
Obviously, they never gave it back. RIP Mitch, you legend.
Both Jon Moxley and Chris Jericho are now with AEW and they were, in fact, the first two World Champions in the history of the company. Moxley is the company's current champion and the only four-time AEW World Champion to date. He will next defend the championship against Orange Cassidy at AEW Full Gear.
