Conflicting Reports On Whether Sami Zayn's AEW Mention On WWE Raw Was Scripted

Did Sami Zayn have the green light?

Last night on WWE Raw, Sami Zayn shocked just about everyone when he mentioned "AEW" during a segment with Corey Graves called The Electric Chair. The segment was built around fans asking Zayn questions about anything on their mind. The questions were rather generic, which prompted Zayn to say, "You could have asked me anything. You could have asked me about AEW."  Corey Graves quickly got the segment back on track.

Zayn mentioning AEW on-air has everyone wondering whether the moment was planned or if Zayn went off-script. The answer depends on who you believe.

Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer reports that the mention was scripted for Zayn. Meltzer's source stated the line "was so fucking stupid.”

Ryan Satin of Pro Wrestling Sheet backed Meltzer, saying Zayn was told to mention AEW during his promo.

However, Meltzer's co-host on Wrestling Observer Radio, Bryan Alvarez reports that a different source told him the line was not scripted. Both Alvarez and Meltzer backed the validity of their respective sources when discussing the moment on their radio show.

Mike Johnson of PWInsider also reports that the line was not in the script and that Zayn "improvised" in the moment.

In WWE's official upload of the segment on YouTube, which you can view above, the AEW mention was edited out. However, the segment remains unchanged on Hulu.
