WWE has always paid tribute to Martin Luther King Jr on MLK Day, running a video package annually on WWE Raw.
Joining Maven on his YouTube channel for a discussion about racism in WWE, D-Von Dudley recalled a time where one wrestler questioned why WWE honored MLK.
"It was Martin Luther King Day and the WWE always does the tribute to Dr. King. The video was being watched before it aired, and I remember somebody making a reference to Dr. King by stating, 'I don't know why we're celebrating him. He didn't do anything to save this country or even help me out.' Booker [Booker T] heard that. We had a meeting the next day, and I remember all the wrestlers were together, and Vince (McMahon) had said, 'So if there's anything that anybody needs to say or wants to get off their chest, let them speak now.' That's before we end the meeting. If anything that you feel bothers you, then let's air it out right now. Booker stood up and said, 'I got something to say. Why [did] this son of a bitch have the nerve to say that Dr. King didn't do anything except to help his own people, or he didn't accomplish nothing?' I remember Vince looking at Booker and just going, 'Who said that?' He told him. That brother's career was never the same after that," recalled D-Von.
D-Von did not name the person who disrespected Dr. King.
Elsewhere during the conversation D-Von gave his reaction to Vince McMahon using the N-word at WWE Survivor Series 2005. You can find his full comments by clicking here.
