Dave Bautista has successfully transition from the world of pro wrestling to the world Hollywood, showing off his range in a variety of films.
Bautista has starred in blockbuster films like "Avengers: Infinity War," mysteries such as "Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery," and an independent film like "Parachute."
Speaking to Chris Van Vliet on Insight, Bautista was asked if he feels he's made it to the top of his industry.
“I’m not at the top. I know for a fact I’m not at the top. I guess I’m on a mission. I don’t think it’s, if you get to the top, you get complacent or maybe you see another mountain. This is the way I’ve done my career. When I am doing something I love, I put everything into it, but it always lead to something else. It leads to another avenue. So if even if you feel like you may be at the top of one thing, I guarantee you it’s gonna lead you to something else. I was just an actor, and I wanted to be an actor, and I wanted to be the best actor I could be, and I still want to be that. I still have a chip on my shoulder to prove that. I’m not in award-winning conversations. I want to be. I don’t care about the awards. It doesn’t matter. Accolades don’t matter to me. But I want to hear people talk about me in that light. I want to be in those conversations. I don’t need a trophy. It doesn’t mean as much to be as being in the conversation, like, ‘Dave’s proven he’s that good. Dave can step on stage with this person, that person, all the best in the world.’ I want to be in those conversations. I wanted to do that, and that’s led me into, now I want to be a part of the process. I don’t want to be somebody’s bitch. ‘Go to your trailer and wait til we’re ready for you.’ I don’t want to be that guy.
"I want to be involved in the creative process. I want to have some say-so on my characters and story arcs, the whole thing. That led me into producing. Now, same, because I was always acting to pay the bills and wanted to produce but because I was always so busy acting, I couldn’t contribute as much as a producer because I was [busy] and I was letting people down, I was disappointing. So the solution to that, start my own production company, hire people that can pick up the slack for me when I’m not available. So now I want my company to be successful, and I have people depending on me. So now it’s a whole different ball game when you start employing people, and people are really counting on you when you’re providing livelihood for people. That’s a whole different type of pressure."
Bautista stars in the new film "The Killer's Game," which is in theaters now.
