David Arquette Understands WCW Title Backlash

David Arquette's WCW run isn't exactly looked at fondly.

When promoting Ready 2 Rumble, Arquette was given the chance to become WCW Champion in a move that is still criticized to this day. When speaking to the Two Man Power Trip of Wrestling podcast recently, Arquette says that he wasn't in favor of the decision then, and certainly isn't now

"I didn't even at all understand the impact of it and or like how sacred it is held," said Arquette. "I tried to give it respect on my own and in general with my actions but I always wanted to take the belt out to fans because that is the other thing they give you the belt and you are in charge of it. I was like what? You have to travel with it and you can't check it, you've got to carry it on and you've got to bring it everywhere and you are in charge of it so I'd bring it around to all of the fans and let them take pictures of it and I tried to be respectful. When you mention a guy like Harley Race that sort of legendary status that is obvious why people would get upset."

One of the more positive experiences involved in his work with WCW involved getting his then-wife Courteney Cox and Kurt Russell to make WCW cameos.

"One of the things I did put together was I was shooting "3,000 Miles To Graceland" at the time and I had to go up to Toronto and my wife was there and she was filming a scene with Kurt Russell and I put together the little promo of her and Kurt Russell which is the only one I got to work on because I was up there alone and got a film crew so I kind of was able to put my own spot together and that was a fun little piece and I got Kurt Russell and Courteney Cox on WCW so that was fun too," Arquette said.
