Dexter Lumis' passion for art isn't just a gimmick.
Throughout his time on WWE NXT, Lumis often drew caricatures, both to send messages to his rivals and to express his love for Indi Hartwell. Fans went a few months without seeing his artwork in the aftermath of his release, but Lumis seemingly sent a new drawing to Hartwell on the August 17 episode of NXT 2.0.
Speaking on MCW Backstage Pass, which was recorded on July 23, 2022 at the MCW Shane Shamrock Memorial Cup event, Lumis was asked about how he got into drawing. He described how he has been doing it since he was a little kid, and his mom noticed that he was gifted.
“My mother says I’ve been drawing since I was two years old. I used to watch Batman, Superman, and professional wrestling on TV, and when the action was over, it’s like I wanted more. So I was like, ‘Mom, draw me this, draw me that. Draw me Hulk Hogan, draw me Ultimate Warrior.’ If she got one detail wrong, I would call her out. She’s like, you do it. That’s how it started. She just started looking at my artwork and she’s like, ‘This kid’s two, three years old and he’s drawing better than me.’ That’s how it basically started, and we are today. I do a lot of commission artwork for fans, wrestlers, clients, companies, whatever," Lumis said.
Lumis also stated that he doesn't limit himself to one specific medium as he likes to explore every aspect of art. When the interviewer, Tara, told him that she has an art degree, Lumis noted that he does, too.
“Me too, Bachelor of Fine Arts, degree in illustration, that’s what I have," he said.
Lumis recently returned to WWE, as he has appeared on two consecutive episodes of Raw in recent weeks. In both cases, he appeared in the crowd, and security officials had to restrain him.
