DOUKI wants to face Mistico.
At NJPW x CMLL FantasticaMania, MLW World Middleweight Champion Mistico challenged IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion DOUKI to a title vs. title bout.
In an interview with NJPW's website, DOUKI was asked about the challenge.
"We-ell, maybe the Japanese fans might not realize this, but Mistico tends to challenge people to mask versus mask and title matches in every venue he’s in (laughs). It got a good reaction, so I don’t know whether he was serious or just saying it for the pop. But if he’s serious I want to do it. If we did it in Mexico, it would be ten times the heat in Sendai. The crowd would be 1000% for him so that would be a lot of fun," DOUKI said.
At the NJPW Road to Destruction event on September 11, DOUKI will defend the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Title against Taiji Ishimori. In the interview, he was asked about his plans beyond the match. DOUKI made it clear that he wanted to have the kind of title reign that only he could have. He teased his interest in competing elsewhere.
"I want to have the kind of championship reign that only I can have. It really hit me when i was back in Mexico this summer that nobody has had the life experience that I’ve had. There’s a lot of fans and people in the business that have a very fixed idea of what they think pro wrestling should be, right? It really struck me what a small worldview that is when I went back to Mexico. I have a story that only I can tell. A lot of them in fact. That Mistico thing for one example," DOUKI said.
