AEW is coming to New York for its biggest event ever on Wednesday with AEW Dynamite Grand Slam.
For decades, "New York" has been in reference to WWE as the company has made the city its home base.
For Eddie Kingston and other members of the AEW roster who are from New York, AEW coming to Arthur Ashe is a homecoming.
"I don't think we're invading New York," Kingston said in an interview with Inside The Ropes. "We're back, well I'm back in town. I believe all the New Yorkers on our roster are like, 'We're coming back to take it back. This is ours. We grew up here. This isn't a company thing, this is our thing.' A lot of the New Yorkers like me, Santana, and Ortiz all feel like, 'we let you have New York and now we're coming to take back our tower.'"
When asked how AEW has been successful in competing with WWE while others have failed, Kingston said, "We have bigger names. We have names that people want to see. Like him or not, people want to see Kenny Omega. I don't like the Bucks, but people want to see The Bucks. People want to see Miro. They want to see Punk. We're capturing people's imaginations."
AEW Dynamite Grand Slam will be headlined by Kenny Omega against Bryan Danielson.
Kingston will team with Jon Moxley to take on Lance Archer & Minoru Suzuki on AEW Rampage Grand Slam. You can watch Kingston's promo ahead of the match by clicking here.
