Edge offers his insight into Becky Lynch's booking.
During his UK & Ireland Tour with Inside The Ropes, Edge was asked about the current trajectory of Becky Lynch. The two worked together at SmackDown 1000 with Becky appearing as a guest on the Cutting Edge.
Asked to delve into the mindset of Lynch, Edge said, "The sense that I got is that she didn't want to be a heel. I don't blame her at all, when you listen to that reaction. You should just let that happen. Let it go wherever it wants to go rather than trying to force something. It's the same as...people say with [John] Cena or [Roman] Reigns that it's forced. The flip side to that is if you force this thing that's happening to go heel, you run the risk of there just being apathy and no reaction. You don't want that." He continued, "To me, just let it happen. I think she was smart enough to see that could be the case. I don't think she wanted to be heel. It's possible to be a heel in today's climate. A guy like The Miz proves that because he's extremely unlikable. Becky is extremely likable. People get that sense, they've been behind her and she's that underdog story."
WWE was forced to reshuffle the Survivor Series card last week due to a stiff punch by Nia Jax on Lynch. The punch gave Lynch a broken face and severe concussion, forcing her out of her scheduled Survivor Series bout against Ronda Rousey. Charlotte Flair ended up taking Becky's place.
Edge believes the injury could work to Lynch's benefit.
"What I assumed would be the match at WrestleMania with Charlotte and Ronda is now happening [at Survivor Series]. So, think about what that means. Becky goes to Mania against Ronda now," he said "I truly think, now that their hand is forced, what is the marquee matchup after [Survivor Series]? It's Becky and Rousey. I think they have finally accepted this organic tsunami that is Becky's popularity."
There have been rumors that Lynch and Rousey will headline WrestleMania 35, but nothing has been confirmed. And, as always, plans can change at a moment's notice in WWE.
