Adam Cole likes the way that his real-life personality contrast so starkly with his personality on television.
Adam Cole in professional wrestling works best as a heel. In the past, Adam Cole, the character, has orchestrated multiple blindside attacks, has participated in some of the most hardcore match types in wrestling history, and has even insulted the family members of his opponents in the past.
Outside of the ring, Adam is widely considered to be a great person but he says that is part of the fun of the character he gets to play.
That is, maybe, the most fun part about being the Adam Cole character,” Cole tells Sean Ross Sapp. “Because I get to let out all of my frustrations and any anger I have through this character, which I am, indeed, playing a character. But to me, that was always—for some reason, and I don’t know what it was, I don’t know if it’s because when I was younger I used to love watching James Bond villains or just heels in general—I always was captivated by them. You have a ton of freedom as a bad guy. So for me, I was able to turn that switch on and off as far as playing that character. I just thought, ‘I want Adam Cole to be the guy that Austin would never want to run into in real life.’”
For now, Adam Cole is happy being a bad guy on television but if you want to see more of the real-life Adam Cole, you can check out his Twitch streams where he is much more jovial with his community. This Friday he takes on Hangman Page for the AEW World Championship on Rampage on TNT.
