AKIRA wants to stay away from the US indie scene.
As of late, AKIRA has kept his profile low, only competing in BJW in Japan and MLW in the United States. As of publish time, 'The Death Fighter' hasn't competed outside of those two companies since December 2024, when he wrestled at a Blitzkrieg! Pro event.
While speaking with Jeremy Lambert and Joel Pearl of Fightful Overbooked's In The Weeds podcast for a new interview, AKIRA explained his current mindset, saying that he needed to go through a personal growth as a wrestler.
"Right now, I needed to get away from the indies in the United States. I feel like I needed to go through a personal growth as a wrestler and as a person so that when I come back, I can have a fresh start. I have not been injured. I’ve been at it hard since 2020 and this is the first time in a long time where I’ve been detached from the scene. As you see with the new entrance look and everything, I’m finding my own lane and who I am and who I need to become to get to that next level. By the time June comes around, you’ll probably see some new stuff from the Psycho Samurai and you’ll have a new presence on the scene that it is sorely missing. Too many flippy boys, not enough fighters."
Elsewhere in the interview, AKIRA explained that he's always the one to pitch crazy spots in his matches. Check out his full comments by clicking here.
