Anita Vaughan: I Probably Wouldn't Be Wrestling Without Becky Lynch

Anita Vaughan talks Becky Lynch.

Becky Lynch is perhaps one of the biggest stars in the history of women's wrestling and was a part of the first ever women's main event in WrestleMania history. Her 'The Man' character has helped launch her into stardom, and with that she has also inspired the next generation of Irish talent. In recent months, Lynch has been in NXT, and wrestled Lyra Valkyria, dropping the NXT Women's Championship to her.

One such talent that was inspired by Lynch is Anita Vaughan, who spoke to Fightful's Corey Brennan about the influence Lynch had on her beginning her wrestling career.

"The two things, her coming up in WWE and, me starting, it happened at the same time and I wouldn't be wrestling probably if she wasn't. When you see someone from Ireland on the biggest stage, and that's just when when she was starting, nevermind the Wrestlemania main events and becoming like an absolute icon and figurehead for WWE. I shows you that it's possible, and it shows you that it can be done and in any field you always look to see has it been done before. Then of course, she didn't have someone to look to to be like, 'oh, I can do that,' so that makes it even cooler, and you can literally see the direct, influence it's had on people like Lyra as well and her getting to have those matches with her in NXT. For me, sitting watching in Dublin, I'm going, 'why can't I do that too?' It's inspiring, it's incredible to watch, and it's just a positive thing, and I think it's just going to keep inspiring future generations of women's wrestlers, of Irish wrestlers, of European wrestlers to just go and get after it and it's not like this far distant American dream. It's something that can happen like in Fight Factory or, like in your local school, why not? It's incredible."

Vaughan is currently in a tag team with former NXT UK star Debbie Keitel as part of The Gals. Becky Lynch is currently scheduled to take on Rhea Ripley for the WWE Women's World Title at WrestleMania 40.

Elsewhere in the same interview with Fightful, Vaughan discussed her team with Keitel. You can read more about that here.
