While speaking to Fightful’s Indied podcast for a new interview, Bengston went in depth on his ‘Catchflow’ style of wrestling, explaining how he ties it into the world of hip-hop.

“Yeah so catchflow is basically the name I’ve given to the way that I wrestle in particular. I was looking at the people around me and the other people that I was finding my name being thrown up in the same conversations as, right? A lot of those were the Lee Moriartys of the world, the Trish Adoras of the world, the Jonathan Greshams. Where as Lee has like Tiger Style, which is like his version of grappling plus a lot of Bruce Lee style things all morphed into one. Trish had like afrotech, she had her own way of doing things. I was looking at all of my influences and whatnot and I’m like, okay, I am from the source, British trained, world of sports style, whatever you want to call it. Styles make fights, the most important thing in what makes a wrestling match interesting is the way that these two different people interact with each other so I felt like the more clear I defined the style of what I did, the better to give people an idea. Especially because technical wrestling has a bad rap of being boring or kind of you know like you have to use that turgid pace type thing. Where as like for me, everyone always says like, ‘Oh, you make technical wrestling fun, you make it exciting.’ If I treat technical wrestling like it’s my fireworks and I really obsess over the detail and the stuff. It also goes back to like hip-hop, right? Like rap, like flow, I have catch flow. That was kind of my thing of combining all my interests, there’s very much like if pro wrestling, if world of sport was like the Harlem Globe Trotters, I’m the and one update to the Harlem Globe Trotters. That’s what I try to capture in that.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Bengston talked about being mentored by Daniel Makabe. Check out those comments here.
