David Francisco talks his time as a RevPro contender.
Prior to becoming a fully fledged member of the Revolution Pro roster in 2024 at the Revolution Rumble, David Francisco spent several years as a contender in the promotion. Contenders in RevPro compete in matches and help with shows as they train with the companies school, and has been a pipeline for several into the promotion, including Francisco.
While speaking to Fightful's Corey Brennan in a recent interview, David spoke about his time as a contender in RevPro, calling it an 'absolute blessing'.
"Being a contender was a blessing, an absolute blessing. The invite was one of the greatest things that could have happened. I'm very thankful for being able to be brought into the RevPro fold that way.
It was offered to me by Andy after I, for a few years, worked a lot and got involved a lot in the shows and gave myself a lot of the times to just show that I was how willing I was to be involved and wanted to participate. It's very funny. I was studying RevPro tape from 2018, 2019, and I see myself ringside on those shows, even before I was a contender, just helping out and being part of the crew. . That is a completely different person, but it's me. The good thing about being a contender is that it brought me into the fold and it got me in a ring. Again, I feel like I will feel this more because I come from Portugal and the Rev Pro stage is a big one. It's a very big one. It's even bigger for me that I didn't grow up in this country. I had to do a big sacrifice and a big change in my life to be able to gain the possibility of access to that stage. So it's a huge deal. Sometimes when we're just in the wheel, we don't realize how big of a deal it is, how much people are actually paying attention to a place like RevPro. To be able to be brought into that stage, but be in a position where I wasn't, when I didn't have to, I'm going to say the word deliver from the start, was a huge blessing. The way that I was presented for those years was a way that didn't overexpose me with the fans or made the fans think that, okay, you're in RevPro now, you got to be at a certain level or else we're going to reject you. They would not reject me because I was a contender. They knew that this was a long process and was part of it. So because I didn't have that pressure there to be able to learn on the job and be involved and get used to being around the biggest names in the country and in the world, which obviously at first you get a little bit starstruck and eventually you have to get used to it, which is where I am right now mentally, was an absolute blessing. Those two years were... I would not change them for a thing."
