Details Behind Jimmy Jacobs Leaving AEW, Company's Shift

There has been a departure on the AEW writing team.

Fightful Select's Sean Ross Sapp has confirmed that Jimmy Jacobs has finished up with All Elite Wrestling. We're told that Jacobs effectively resigned over the past week, and that the two sides remain on amicable terms. We're told that AEW is going to look at the move as a way to freshen up the writers room, and that Jacobs had been burned out of late.

Jacobs had been at the most shows of anyone that worked directly with Tony Khan during his time in AEW.

Jacobs joined All Elite Wrestling in June 2023 after spending years in TNA/IMPACT Wrestling, and worked for WWE prior to that.

Jimmy Jacobs also competed a couple of times in ROH while he was in AEW. During his most recent ROH match, the team played a rib on him by using the entire remaining pyro load from the Canadian tour on his entrance. Then he got squashed by Satnam Singh in 48 seconds.

Fightful Select was told that Jacobs was very well liked backstage in All Elite Wrestling and there appeared to be no ill will regarding his departure. Jacobs cited burnout and not wanting to travel as much as a reason for wanting to finish up. AEW took the opportunity to decide that the move would be a creative freshening for them, as Jacobs was a major part of the team for well over a year. We're told that outside of Tony Khan, Jacobs was at more AEW shows than anyone.

There have been several incorrectly aggregated reports of a Twitter Space that Ibou from Wrestlepurists hosted shortly after. Some details that were discussed online that we can add some details to:

Jacobs did come into AEW not familiar with the on screen product, but was always open to learn and took recommendations on catching up.

Jacobs did work directly with Chris Jericho in developing the Learning Tree. However, we're told that the original execution was not Jacobs' idea.

Jimmy Jacobs knew who Okada was. That news emerging was bad aggregation.

AEW has been aware that they've needed to make creative adjustments and are at least planning that internally.

Most in AEW expect Jacobs to take some time off in general.

Jacobs has already made an indie appearance for XICW Detroit since the word emerged.
