The controversial Drake Wuertz has been fired by WWE.

Among numerous names that were released by WWE Wednesday afternoon, Drake Wuertz was among those that have been called for by staff, roster and fans alike. His conspiracy theories were pushed on social media, and even in county commissioner meetings while wearing an NXT polo.

NXT talent have spoken with Fightful often over the last year, saying that Wuertz had "changed" since they knew him, and many even said they feared for WWE safety if Wuertz was fired.

Wuertz was either formally or informally suspended earlier in 2021 and was not permitted at the Performance Center for several weeks. Much of the NXT talent believed that he'd be cut after that. Over the past couple of years Wuertz went from a beloved name in wrestling to one that had grown to concern, as he had spoken about his far-right political beliefs and connected them to misinformation in relation to the pandemic, religion, and child trafficking. Fightful was told that an article about Wuertz had "disgusted" higher ups.

Drake was among the first fired this morning around 11 AM and has already reached out to promoters, per PWInsider.

Wuertz competed as a pro wrestler before WWE, going by the name Drake Younger in a successful independent wrestling run.
