Kevin Blackwood discusses his West Coast Pro Championship win.
In March 2024, Blackwood was able to capture the championship for the first time by defeating Starboy Charlie in a singles contest. Blackwood ended up holding the title for 233 days before dropping it to Titus Alexander at a Pro Wrestling NOAH event in November.
Blackwood won the title back from Alexander at the beginning of this year, defeating him at a West Coast Pro event on January 10.
While chatting with Fightful Overbooked for a new interview, Blackwood praised West Coast Pro for maintaining a relationship with him even after he moved back to Buffalo.
"That was the first company that reached out to me when I moved to Los Angeles a couple of years ago. Daniel Garcia had been working out there for a little while before that. Scott was really high on both of us from our work at Limitless. Scott had reached out to me and they were a constant source of work for me while I lived there. I’m glad to be able to keep that relationship up with them when I moved back to Buffalo."
Then, Blackwood talked about his history with Titus Alexander and their match in Japan.
"He wasn’t the first, but he was the second person that I met on the West Coast when I moved there. It wasn’t at West Coast Pro, it was at UGWA [Underground Wrestling Alliance]. I wrestled him there and he was so new. Our match then was still sick and we had such good chemistry. We were still both finding ourselves as wrestlers. To be able to do it a couple of years later, our first big one being in Japan last month for NOAH, that was one of the best matches of my career. At the very least, one of my favorites. We’ve always had natural chemistry and getting along behind the scenes helps. I’m a hated heel at West Coast, but behind the scenes, everybody gets along pretty well."
Blackwood will get the chance to face Shelton Benjamin during WrestleMania weekend, as he'll take on the AEW star at Pandemonium Pro Wrestling's The House Always Wins event on April 17. Stay up-to-date with the promotion by clicking here.
