Peter Avalon: My AEW Contract Offer Overlapped A Potential Opportunity With 205 Live

Peter Avalon discusses the career options that he had in 2019.

When All Elite Wrestling was formed in 2019, many pro wrestlers around the world were afforded the opportunity to become household names as a part of a brand new wrestling company that had a lot of buzz. One of those names was Peter Avalon, who has competed for the company since the first Fight For The Fallen event in 2019.

In a recent interview with Fightful, Avalon revealed that his contract offer from AEW came at the same time that he was talking to WWE about a potential role on the 205 Live brand.

"Well, I go to a lot of people for advice. I have my people there that I’ve been with for a while, in and out of wrestling and everything. I talk to Adam Pearce a lot about my career trajectory and what I should do. Different people, different places just to see what I should do. The timing of everything was AEW was coming around and that, within the months happening and the talks happening with everybody, Cody reached out and told me to keep May available if I can. As I got more and more information as it came out, I was eventually offered an opportunity with AEW that overlapped with the timing of it and after conversations with certain people, like my people I was
previously talking about, telling me to bet on myself. I went with what was presented to me as the AEW contract and I took that. So I bet on myself and wanted to be joined with AEW because they had an idea, they had a vision, and it wasn’t just like, ‘Let’s keep talking, let’s keep talking, let’s keep talking.’ It was, ‘Here. Here is something.’ I had EVPs telling me to keep time open and eventually I’m being pitched a character and then here I am."

Avalon's role in the company has slowly gotten smaller and smaller over time since 2019, as he currently mainly competes on AEW Dark and AEW Dark: Elevation alongside his Wingmen stable. Later on in the interview, Avalon revealed that he's aiming to secure a real contract from a company soon.

"Contract season’s coming up for Big P, I guess. Me and my people, I’ve been talking to different people. Honestly, making different phone calls, different phone calls coming to me. It is what it is. I’m playing for a real contract. That’s it. Of course. I’m an AEW original. Dynamite since day one. I want to be an AEW legend. I want to die an AEW legend. Of course. I’m a loyal guy and honestly loyal to a fault, honestly. I see it a lot of times in decisions made in my career. It is what it is. But I’m an AEW original, Dynamite since day one."

Alongside his work with AEW, Avalon has competed for companies such as New Japan Pro Wrestling, GCW, and Prestige Wrestling in 2022.
