Renzo Rose Discusses The Italian Wrestling Scene, Says It's Still Maturing

Renzo Rose discusses how the Italian wrestling scene has developed in recent years.

Rose has made Ireland his home in recent years, as he has been a prominent face in Over The Top Wrestling and is currently the No Limits Champion, a title he captured in his home country late last year. The Italian wrestling scene is not one that is spoken about much in the industry, but Rose believes that Italian wrestlers will be coming to the forefront soon.

While speaking to Fightful's Corey Brennan, Rose discussed the Italian wreslting scene, noting that it is similar to the Irish scene in a way.

"Well the Italian wrestling scene is a weird one because like the Irish wrestling scene, they were born pretty much in the early 2000s, so it's the same length. But on the other hand, we didn't have people going abroad and learning or getting signed. Things are just changing in the last five years. You see a lot of guys like Akira being in New Japan, me being in OTT, the BBB lads being in RevPro, OTT and now Japan as well. Things are changing, obviously, but it's a scene that has some gems, but it's a scene that needs to grow more. Obviously, I'm not going to lie and say that we are on the same level of the other wrestling scenes, even like Ireland or the UK. But there's definitely a movement in the right direction. You can see a lot of young guys moving, wanting to learn and shows are getting bigger. I remember when I started wrestling in Italy, like six or seven years ago, getting like a draw of 50 people in the crowd was something spectacular, like was something very, very tough to get. But now you see more shows. I'm willing to plug in, you know, SIW Wrestling in Tuscany or Milan Wrestling Federation that are doing sold out shows consistently. Talent is getting good and talent from abroad now wants to go to Italian wrestling. So it's a scene that is getting matured and for people that want to, the wrestling scene in Italy. The only thing that I will get is just wait for them. They will get to you. Don't worry. They will get to you."

Rose is currently scheduled to take on Griffin McCoy at OTT Gaff Party Night 2 at the beginning of next month and will look to continue defending the NLW title against his fellow imports.

Elsewhere in the same interview, Rose reflected on capturing the NLW title in Milan. You can read more about that here.
