NJPW STRONG Openweight Champion Gabe Kidd appeared in the crowd on the June 26 episode of AEW Dynamite, and fans started buzzing about the possibility of seeing him compete in an AEW ring. AEW announced that Kidd and Roderick Strong would face The Infantry (Shawn Dean and Carlie Bravo) on the June 28 episode of AEW Rampage.
In a digital exclusive, Gabe Kidd commented on his upcoming AEW in-ring debut.
"You ready now? Hey, everyone, get these cameras on me. Attention, you want to know who I am? You want to know who this guy is? I’m Gabe Kidd, New Japan STRONG Openweight Champion. I’m the reason that Eddie Kingston’s sat on the couch, eating Chick-fil-A for a year. That’s me. I’ve got opps in every company on this planet. I’ve got targets on my back in NOAH, New Japan, and now AEW. Let me ask you a question, what are any of you butthurt little punks gonna do about it? I’m here on your turf. I’m a madman. Come and find me," Kidd said.
Roderick Strong, Mike Bennett, and Matt Taven approached Kidd, and he confronted them. Strong encouraged him to settle down, as he had a proposal.
Roderick Strong: Settle, settle. Ease yourself. Listen, I like your style. I like your craziness. I like this madman that you say you are. But I need to see it for myself. So how about me and you, how about we team up on Rampage and I see what you’re all about, and I see what you’re all about.
GK: You guys need to see it? Well, you show me something then.
Once Kidd walked away, Strong noted that he did not trust Kidd, but that's what he loved about him, as he was insane.
