Mene Gene says a mutual friend got him booked for a commercial with Kevin Hart.
In a new commercial for Mountain Dew Kickstart, Gene Okerlund made a cameo and was named by movie star Kevin Hart. Okerlund told Sports Illustrated that Hart's Jumanji co-star The Rock was the one to suggest him for the role.
“I think a good word was put in to Kevin by my very dear, close, personal longtime friend Dwayne Johnson. These guys work together, they talk on a daily basis, and maybe they thought ‘Mean’ Gene was the right guy to hold the stick in this Mountain Dew Kickstart commercial,” said Okerlund.
Hart was channeling the Macho Man Randy Savage character and Okerlund said he did a good job of portraying Savage's energy. He also said while on set Hart reminded him of the wrestlers he used to interview during that era and the commercial aimed to be like the interviews he did the bulk of his career and not like modern WWE interviews.
