Goldberg reflects on an early offer he received from WWE before beginning his Hall of Fame wrestling career with WCW.
Goldberg is one of the main names associated with WCW during the Monday Night War of the late 1990s. While he would eventually transition into a career with WWE, he is still largely associated with WCW to this day.
However, Goldberg had received an offer to begin his wrestling career with WWE prior to signing with World Championship Wrestling.
Speaking on the Nothing Left Unsaid podcast with Tim Green, Goldberg recalled utilizing the early offer from WWE in order to entice Eric Bischoff to sign him and make sure that he was a wrestler that everybody would remember.
"I specifically remember the phone call where I picked up the phone, I had an offer on the table from the WWE. It expired within 24 hours and I called Eric Bischoff and I said, ‘I don’t want to be cocky, I don’t want to be an asshole, but if I’m going to do this, I’m going to make a difference and I’m going to be somebody and I’m not going to be one of those $500 throw around the ring dudes that you forget about.’ That was my statement. The door opened. All I needed was a door open and I did my work," he said.
WWE, during the New Generation Era, was famous for offering " opportunities and not guarantees." Kevin Nash, who would win all three WWE Championships available at the time within a year and a half of his 1993 debut, was famously offered a guarantee of 10 dates at $150 per night.
He would obviously go on to make significantly more.
Goldberg recently expressed his discontent with current WWE Superstar Asuka surpassing his undefeated streak. Read his comments here.
