Gunther On Past WWE Intercontinental Champions: Everyone Had Their Run, It's My Time Now

Gunther is officially the longest reigning Intercontinental Champion of all time, setting the record at 455 days as champion.

Gunther surpassed Honky Tonk Man, who held the title for 454 days (WWE recognized him as holding the title for 453 days) and was acknowledged for his accomplishment by WWE on Thursday.

The WWE Intercontinental Championship has a storied history with the likes of The Rock, Steve Austin, Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels, Randy Savage, Ricky Seamboat, Ultimate Warrior, Bryan Danielson (Daniel Bryan), Chris Jericho, The Miz, and more holding the title throughout its history.

Speaking to Essentially Sports, Gunther was asked about previous champions.

“I don’t live in the past. Everybody, they all had their runs, it’s my time now,” he said.

Gunther's latest victory came against Chad Gable on Monday's WWE Raw. Gable was the last challenger in front of him before setting the record.
