Last year's edition of Rebellion was supposed to air live on April 19, 2020, but due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic was moved to a closed set at Skyway Studios in Nashville, Tennessee, and taped between April 8–10. It was subsequently broadcasted on April 21 and 28 as a two-part special episode for the promotions weekly TV program.
Among the matches that took place on those nights, Willie Mack defeated Ace Austin to capture the X Division Championship, while Moose emerged victorious in the main event of night two. It was at that event that he appeared with the old TNA World Heavyweight Title and declared himself as the Champion.
