Jeff Jarrett says there's a lot of roadway left, and he doesn't know where it's going.
Jeff Jarrett started his quest to win the AEW World Championship at AEW Dynamite: Fight For The Fallen. This mission hit a speedbump on the January 29th episode of AEW Dynamite, as he lost to Claudio Castagnoli. He would have earned a world title shot with a win.
Speaking on his My World podcast, Jeff Jarrett discussed his loss to Castagnoli and noted that he didn't know what was next.
"Let’s back up all the way to really November, December, in the contract situation, and Jay [Lethal], my partner, he obviously stays out of my business from a legal and contractual standpoint out of respect. But when I went to him, and I said, ‘Hey man,’ because there was a little bit of, in the back of my mind, ‘Am I gonna re-sign? Am I gonna do something different?’ But once we got into negotiations, and I went to him, I said, ‘Hey man, I feel confident that we’re gonna agree on something here. Let’s talk goals.’ Jay just kind of flipped it around on me and said, ‘Hey man, what is your goal?’ I just said, ‘In a lot of ways, Jay, I’ve become more and more laser-focused on AEW gold.’ He goes, ‘That’s what I like to hear.’ He said, ‘What title?’ He assumed, I originally said it that it was AEW gold, and then we kind of got into the discussion, and I thought back on my career, and that’s how the AEW World Title, and I had a quick conversation with Karen, and I’ve had different conversations with different Hall of Famers, both in and outside of AEW, and they’re like, ‘Hey, man. It’s kind of the story of your entire career. Walked out on Vince? Oh, you’ll never be back there. Went back. Walked out on Bischoff. Oh, man, WCW will never have you back. You’re gonna go what? You’re gonna start your own wrestling company? That is insane.’ So in a lot of ways, when I’ve had to process and digest, persistence and perseverance have been just truly in so many ways maybe the single word that may describe, I don’t want to say just my career because I’m a big believer in talking to kids and sobriety, I often tell folks it ain’t easy. Nothing happens overnight, it just doesn’t. So did I take a big ass-whooping? My buddy said, not only did you take an ass-whooping, you took two. Claudio and MJF. But hey man, that is I think the life of a professional wrestler. But to be a successful one, you damn sure better persevere. So we got a lot of roadway in front of us. 11 months, I don’t know what’s gonna happen, I don’t know [how] things are gonna change. One thing’s for sure that I learned, there’s always next week. You never know what’s gonna change. Moxley may not change. There may be a new set of circumstances. There may be a new focus, there may be something in my future. I know today, and that’s all I’m really worried about. I am really, really looking forward to what’s next, but I am certain that I don’t know what’s next. I really don’t," Jarrett said.
