Jerry Lawler has not ruled out Broadway.
On Dinner with the King, Jerry Lawler brought up the subject of wrestlers getting opportunities in movies and other entertainment. Lawler said he has an agent for such purposes and his agent recently sent him an email asking if Lawler was interested in performing in the long running Broadway musical Kinky Boots.
"I just got an email that came from my agent...if someone wants to contact me for a movie, you got to go through (his agent). Listen to this...'I would like to check availability on Jerry Lawler regarding a potential stint as Don in the Broadway musical Kinky Boots. Please let me know if he has a window for a six-week or longer run. Anytime between now and the summer of 2018,'" said Lawler.
Kinky Boots is a musical based on a book by Harvey Fierstein with the same title. The musical has been in production in Chicago, New York, and around the globe since 2012. It features the music of 1980s pop musician Cyndi Lauper, who is also the daughter of wrestling legend Lou Albano.
Lawler has limited experience on stage but he said he researched the role of Don who is the antagonist of Kinky Boots.
"I was Daddy Warbucks one time in the play Annie at the Orpheum Theatre in Memphis. It was just kind of a guest celebrity spot there...Don is the guy who actually owns the boots factory where they make these boots," said Lawler. "I asked my agent 'what do you mean a six week run?' They do the show every single day and sometimes twice. So I'm like 'I'd have to move to New York City and be on Broadway every single day for six weeks?'" he continued.
Lawler went on to say that performing in a Broadway musically was not on his "bucket list." He also stated he has not accepted the role or rejected it because he is unsure how much it pays. He assured his audience he would keep them posted on his status with the musical.
